The Heart Behind Wags Collective: Turning Personal Loss into a Mission of Hope

The story behind Wags Collective started with the sudden silence in our home after losing one of our dog’s it’s quiet that can feel deafening. For us, that silence descended in July 2025, when we said a heart breaking goodbye to one of our two cherished Cockapoo’s. At just 9 years old she was a vibrant soul taken far too soon by a tumour, the loss left a void that was difficult for me to understand. The grief was a heavy blanket, a profound and personal sorrow that any dog owner who has faced such a loss will intimately understand. In the midst of that initial trauma, as we navigated the empty spaces in our home and our hearts, a new journey began – one we never expected.
As my wife and I began to recover, we started looking for a companion for our surviving dog. The quiet in our home was a constant reminder of the loss, and we hoped a new friend might bring back some of the joy and energy that had vanished. This search, however, opened our eyes to a reality we were not prepared for. We were confronted with the staggering number of wonderful, loving dogs across the UK waiting in shelters, each with a story of their own, each hoping for a second chance.
